Episode 174: Thinking Differently
It is time. It’s time to get to the heart of how we think about our societal problems and solutions differently. Thinking differently about public safety, education, health care--dealing with the actual issues and finding common ground, which may be messy and uncomfortable, but can be done. L. Joy begins class with our new Vote Mama candidate Spotlight on Nicole Horn, then brings Professor Alex Torpey to the front of the class to discuss thinking differently about governance.
Homework:
Take an opportunity to research the issues you are working on in your community and see if there is data and information that can help you think differently about the solutions for the issue?
Vote Mama Candidate Spotlight:
Vote Mama is the first PAC in the country dedicated to increasing the political power of Democratic moms by disrupting the systems that hold women back through direct financial support, mentorship, and endorsements. On this episode we spotlight Nicole Horn, candidate for Georgia’s Labor Commissioner, an elected position.
Over the course of her life Nicole has held many jobs, from waitressing at Waffle House, to television reporting, to owning her own business and serving as a corporate executive. She knows what it’s like to count every penny from an hourly job, just like she knows what it’s like to balance a budget for her business, or to watch her employees start a family and buy their first house because of the job she could offer them. These experiences inform her work and how she will lead the Department of Labor. See more about Nicole Horn on her website https://www.nicolehornforgeorgia.com/
