Announcing the New Arts & Activism Segment Powered by AKILA WORKSONGS

I’m thrilled to announce the launch of a new segment I’m calling “Arts & Activism,” powered by AKILA WORKSONGS. From visual art to music, theater, and beyond, creative expression has always played a pivotal role in challenging the status quo and amplifying the voices of those who are often unheard.

This segment will shine a spotlight on artists, movements, and organizations that use creativity as a catalyst for social justice and political progress. We’ll explore the stories behind their work, the impact they’ve made, and how their art continues to fuel movements for change. Whether it’s the healing arts, Hip-Hop or the powerful words of a spoken word artist, “Arts & Activism” will highlight the intersection where art meets advocacy and where passion becomes action.

To kick off this exciting new segment, I had the privilege of sitting down with April R. Silver, the founder of AKILA WORKSONGS. April has been a leading figure in the fusion of art and activism since the early 2000s, and it was her work that inspired the creation of this segment. During our conversation, April shared the origins of the term “Arts & Activism,” how she popularized it, and what it means today.

This new segment is not about celebrity endorsements or political fundraising; it’s about showcasing how individuals and organizations are using their creative talents to build and change communities, both during and beyond Election Day. Over the coming weeks, we’ll bring a diverse array of voices to the front of the class, sharing their journeys and the impact they’ve had through their art. We hope to inspire you to think about how you can use your own creativity and activism to take civic action.

Special thanks to April R. Silver and the AKILA WORKSONGS team for powering this segment. Stay tuned for our upcoming episodes, where we will continue to explore the powerful intersection of arts and activism.
