Title IX Is More Than Sports
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Title IX is federal civil rights law that was passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972 that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. Secretary of Education Betsey DeVos has proposed new rules on sexual harassment and violence. Ashley Sawyer of Girls for Gender Equity joins L. Joy, June and Lurie to discuss the proposed changes and how you can #TakeCivicAction on the issue.
