How will you #TakeCivicAction in 2018?

Happy New Year! This year promises to be a huge political year. To put that statement in greater perspective, this year we will hold primary and general elections for thousands of elected positions, including;

  • 468 Congressional seats (33 Senate and 435 House seats)

  • 36 Gubernatorial seats,

  • 30 Lieutenant Gubernatorial seats,

  • 30 Attorney General seats,

  • 26 Secretary of State seats,

  • 35 statewide ballot measures (and counting),

  • 32 State Supreme Court elections,

  • 6,066 State Legislature seats,

  • and over 2,000 school board seats.

That’s not even counting the number special elections and other local and municipal seats across the country. Once again, we will have the opportunity to make change in our communities by electing public officials who will champion the issues we care about. But remember, civic engagement doesn’t begin and end on Election Day. Before we walk into our polling site and cast a ballot in a primary or general election, there are many things we can do to

#TakeCivicAction.In addition to bringing you more civic education content through #SundayCivics, some of my other civic actions this year will include volunteering and donating to candidates who fit my political values, testifying at local and state public hearings on issues important to my community and developing and organizing around legislation on issues like police reform, healthcare and education. What about you? Does your list of New Year resolutions include a pledge to get more civically engaged?

How will you #TakeCivicAction in 2018?

Share how you plan to get civically engaged in the comments below. We will read some of the comments on this Sunday's show.
